The Story of Vasco
24th March 2009
Vasco is on at the Orange Tree, Richmond from the 25th March for a month.
A fascinating fairytale about war, written by Lebanese playwright Georges Schehade, and adapted by Ted Hughes.
This version was lost for almost 50 years, and this will be it's world premiere!
I was inspired by stories of Ruritania, the mythical European country,
to write a score with influences from Bulgaria, Serbia, France and Italy.
I composed some parts for fantastic tuba player Paul Tkachenko,
as well as purchasing a brand new E Soprani accordion for the task.
Have a listen to a couple of tracks from the play:
Ruritanian Village Band
Vasco Tango
Marguerite's Dream
